Frequently Asked Questions
With most companies, you get a lot of questions. Take a look below at the most frequent questions we get and we hope it may answer what you've already been thinking about!
Q: What is the relationship between Retrofoam of Minnesota and Affordable Insulation Solutions?
A: Owner Carla Ringold and her son Tim Ringold, vice president, started RetroFoam MN in early 2008 and saw the need to expand their service for the benefit of their customers. The two businesses are partners in providing existing homeowners with quality insulation options.
Q: How long do insulation projects take on existing homes?
A: Generally, installation takes 1 to 4 days, depending on the size of the project.
Q: How much do home improvements like this typically cost?
A: Every home is different in size and need. However, with the minimally invasive approaches we use today, the cost is much less than even just a few years ago. The improved technology allows for easier installation and that lowers costs.
Q: Are your workers employees or subcontractors?
A: When you hire us, you get us. All our workers, including our installers, are our trained and professional employees.
Q: As a customer, would I need to get my own building permit for insulating?
A: No, we’ll take care of any kind permitting, if needed.
Q: Are there independent groups that define standards for building products?
A: Yes. And we are proudly supported by them. We are certified by BPI, a best practices industry group. We are an Xcel Energy Approved Participating Home Performance Contractor. We are Better Business Bureau Accredited and a Lead-safe Renovator.
Q: What products do you use on a typical home improvement project and how do you decide?
A: We offer both high quality cellulous and foam products. Our energy assessment consultant will visit your home and investigate your current insulation status. Based on that visit, a qualified assessment is made and recommended to the homeowner. The homeowner can then decide how to proceed.
Q: Is the air quality safe once a project is completed?
A: Yes. Our products are absolutely safe with no off-gassing. There may be some light and initial moisture released, but not enough to cause staining or moisture issues. As a matter of fact, we want homeowners home when we do the work.
Q: Can a customer request proof of your contractor's insurance?
A: Absolutely.
Q: What types of warranties are included in your services?
A: We stand behind our work with a lifetime warranty on installation and products.
Q: Do you recommend Energy Audits to your customers and how would a customer make such a request? Who performs them?
A: Yes, we offer Energy Audits. Just call and ask for one. However, we don’t think everyone needs an audit. Unless there is a serious issue, it may not be needed. Our trained and experienced professionals can guide you on whether you would be best served by an audit or an assessment.
Q: Do you do commercial work?
A: Yes. We do not, however, do work on new construction.
